LARA is a personal assistant, built on the ALEXA platform (Skill), designed to monitor the well-being of elderly, ill, or recovering individuals when no caregiver is present.
LARA performs periodic check-ins by asking if everything is okay and processes the response, sending notifications to family members or responsible parties whenever the assisted person indicates they are not feeling well or even calls for help.
LARA will be available in a beta tester version soon. The entire development of the solution is being carried out by myself — someone who understands both the need we, as children, have to care for our parents, and the need they have to feel supported.
A system like LARA does not replace human interaction in its fullness — and it never will. But Artificial Intelligence already provides tools that can make our lives more comfortable, even in the moments when we cannot be physically present.

The idea for Novais AI came from my personal concern for my mother’s well-being. She is 84 years old, lives with mild dementia, but is generally in good health.
I was searching for a solution that could monitor her automatically, since in the vast majority of cases, she was simply doing very well — thankfully.
She does not yet require in-person care, so I imagined that this monitoring could help me a lot when I am away from home and even during short trips.
Alexa was my first choice, and it worked reasonably well. But it lacked native features that would allow more effective interactions and notifications for me in case something went wrong.
Combined with two basic security cameras, I was already able to monitor her remotely, know if she had woken up, if she was moving around the house, and — usually — I would call her through Drop-In to talk.
It worked reasonably well, but the need for more automatic yet interactive features gave me the idea of developing solutions based on Alexa + Artificial Intelligence, capable of handling 99% of situations when everything is fine, and notifying me whenever something “different” happens or if she indicates she is not feeling well.
Next Developments
GIOVANA is the assistant that will revolutionize the monitoring of people in clinics and nursing homes, interacting both with patients in recovery and with the institution’s professional staff.
TOTA is the super-monitor developed with Artificial Intelligence, capable of monitoring not only well-being but also connecting with health-tracking devices (watches, wristbands), detecting dangerous variations, alerting medical teams, and even calling an ambulance!
